A worldwide ransomware cyberattack affected businesses, governments and personal computers in 150 countries on Friday. And while Modern Tire Dealer doesn’t claim to be clairvoyant, our April cover story on ransomware has the information you need to protect your business. 

In less than a year and a half, the FBI estimated small businesses in the U.S. lost more than $75 million in downtime due to ransomware.

The May 12 ransomware chaos began with “WannaCry” malware.

It affected industries across the globe, from hospitals to auto manufacturing plants. Production at a Nissan Motor Co. plant in Britain reopened Monday after a stoppage Friday due to the cyberattack. Car maker Renault halted production to prevent the spread of ransomware, and announced work at one French plant would remain closed Monday.

The New York Times created an animated map showing the “tens of thousands of Windows computers that were taken hostage.”
